[Q] SGH-1337 Back Camera No Picture topic

SOCIALIZE IT ⇨

I have a Galaxy S4 SGH-1337 that has a broken back camera. This issue started once I downloaded an AT&T update that was pushed down to me. The front camera works perfectly, but when I switch to the back no picture appears and it's just black. The camera itself appears to be fine hardware-wise, no cracks or dents, etc. A few times in the past few months, the camera worked for a few seconds before going black.

I've already gone through the following troubleshooting steps:
  • Do a factory reset

  • Have AT&T technicians do factory reset

  • Had a cell phone repair company do a complete OS wipe and reinstall

  • Had the camera itself checked for hardware defects

  • Started in recovery mode and cleared all cache

  • Look through the phone's logs for any errors captured but couldn't find anything of use

At this point, after having technicians wipe the Operating System off and reload it, without any success, I'm leaning towards it being a defective firmware update that for some reason hasn't been rolled back. Can anyone offer advice on how to proceed? The phone is not rooted or loaded with a custom ROM, in order to allow AT&T to troubleshoot but at this point I've exhausted all my options. I stand firm on it not being a software issue, such as the Operating System, or an errant app, because if it was wouldn't the camera work with a fresh OS reinstall? It also doesn't appear to be hardware specific; a few months ago I had a handful of times where the camera worked for a few seconds but then turned to black. Without knowing enough about the internals, and having it work a handful of times a few months ago, I can only come to the conclusion that it's some kind of firmware that needs to be rolled back.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance for any suggestions/tips/advice.
