[Q] Flashing firmware zip extracted from OTA topic

SOCIALIZE IT ⇨

Hello,

My phone is the unbranded world version HTC Butterfly 2, similar to the M8 but without all the custom development. Phone is version 4.4.2 has TWRP custom recovery but stock sense rom and S-ON. No edits have been made other than adding SuperSu for root after making a full TWRP back up.

I have the stock firmware zip files from the OTA's for 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 for my phone. The CID, MID and 0PAG2 all match with my phone. The OTA firmware zips are different in size, both contain the recovery, boot and rcdata images. The 4.4.4. is a much larger zip and also has the radio img.

I am hoping someone with more experience can answer this question.

Can I flash either firmware zip over my 4.4.2 firmware? And will the phone function or do I also need to install the OTA extras (ROM??) associated with that firmware?
Would being S-OFF make a difference?

I see with older HTC models (OneX) this is possible by locking the bootloader and and using fastboot to flash the firmware, after which one can sideload the OTA extras through TWRP by editing the updater script.

I do not have the option to flash the stock 4.4.2 recovery (can't find one), and the only RUU I have found is for the Hong Kong/Japan areas which have different radios which would limit the phone's use in North America.

My plan is to go S-off anyways but with the lack of custom roms right now, I have no other idea how to bump up to 4,4,4 and eventually 5.0.
If anyone has another idea, please let me know.

Thank you
