[Q] Droid Incredible Root and other questions topic

I recently purchased an HTC Droid Incredible at a yardsale, For get ready for this... .50 USD. The lady said it was her sons and he upgraded it to another phone, then lost it... then they found it and now selling it.

I basically just want to use it for music and occasional internet. So I'd like to ROOT it and find maybe a custom ROM that is stripped out and lightweight on resources.

The bastard thing did system updates on it's own, so I don't know if it can be rooted or not now.... And if so; how and what ROM would be recommended?
