GPS on HDX 7 LTE Discussion topic

I’ve mentioned some of this in other threads and I realize I maybe the only person who’s primary perpose for having a HDX 7 is to use as a GPS. Here’s the reason. I want something with a larger screen than the typical GPS. It’s going to be used on my motorcycles, street and off road. It needs to have a water proof or at least a water resistance case that is somewhat rugged. Incipio makes a case like that for the HDX 7 and the HDX’s screen is decent outside. Not too many of these type cases available for 7” / 8” tablets. I know Sony has the Xperia Compact that is water proof but I can’t find any type of rugged case for it. Lifeproof makes a water proof case for the Ipad minis and from what I read they do a great job as a GPS. I just don’t think I can buy an Apple product, it may come to that, I hope not.

The problem with my HDX is that it erratically loses fixes on the satellites. It may have a fix on 14 out of 21 satellites for 30 minutes then suddenly 0 out of 21. It may regain enough fixes to get a location but usually not as many as the previous. If I disable the location services then restart them it usually will get a fix again for some unknown amount of time. I do all of this with WiFi off. My HDX 7 is rooted with 4.5.2 . I also have disabled OTA and installed Google GApps . During the GApps installation I overwrote files when prompted. One member stated they did not do this. Can anyone think of anything I’ve done or doing wrong. If someone could provide the stock files to put them back in place of the GApps files I could try that. Or is this just a characteristic of this tablet’s GPS sensors? I read somewhere the HDX 7 LTE has “ A” type GPS sensors which don’t work as well as the others. I use the GPS Status app on my phone and on this tablet as a comparison tool and my phone very rarely loses its fix and if does, it comes right back.

Thanks,
Ken
