Soft keys topic

My Galaxy S4 is on its last legs and while I wait to see what the development of the S6 will entail, along with seeing what the LG G4, Sony Z4, and Saygus V2 shake out to be, I may pick up a cheap G2 through T-Mo to hold me over. I recognize that the G2 lacks the SD card and removable battery of the S4, but I figure I can live with that in the short term. My biggest concern is the usability of the soft keys. I've never used a phone that didn't have capacitive or hardware keys, and I'm worried that dealing with the soft keys and resulting loss of screen real estate will be aggravating. Any input (especially from former Samsung users) about what they are like to live with? I saw that they can be removed, but it then requires gestures to replicate them? Thanks!
