Rooted S Off HTC Desire Z won't recognize SIM topic

I got a rooted HTC Desire Z, when I pit in my SIM card it just says "No Service". I have an unlock code for the phone but no unlock screen pops up for me to input the code.

In HBOOT the phone shows it's S-Off which is what I'd read would be the solution to my problem as it would unlock the phone (If that's true or not I don't know). As well my wifi isn't working. It was preset to "auto" frequency and wouldn't recognize my router. I changed it to 5mhz and 2.5 and still nothing.

All of this is really over my head, we got 2 phones with the intention of learning about rooting and were just lucky to receive a rooted phone but I can't seem to use it at all.

All I can tell about this phones current state is it's got Clockworkmod and it's on Android 4.2.2.
