[Q] S4 i9500 show overheating prompt when connected to charger topic

My s4 i9500 got bricked recently while trying to flash twrp. I gave the device to a friend who fixed the usb port and upgraded it android 5.0.1 though it isn't available for my region (ECT). After the upgrade the device drains battery power and displays the battery overheating prompt even when the device isn't in use.
I downgraded the device back to android 4.4.2 which was installed before the brick. Now the device doesn't prompt overhearing while idle rather once a charge is plugged in, it prompts overheating even without the device is at normal temperature.
Am wondering if anyone is experiencing this same problem and its a hardware or software issue.
Any help will be appreciated
