[Q] remove root leftovers after sideload topic

hope this hasn't been answered yet, I couldn't find anything specific to my issue.
I rooted my N5 with Towelroot back in the days of KitKat, then I updated phone through OTA to 5.0, 5.0.1 and 5.1. Since the very first update, root permissions got lost and I thought any traces would be gone for good.
However, I'd like to use Virgin TV Anywhere, which cannot run on rooted devices, but still the phone is detected as rooted.
SuperSU has been removed, a root checker from play store confirms me the phone is not rooted: what else shall I do?
