Need a little help before attempting to root and install CM in my Kindle Fire HD8.9" topic

I have no prior experience rooting or installing ROMs.

I have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" SV 8.5.1. I'm not sure which version.

I was wondering if I could get some direction on where to start with my device to successfully install CM 12 without bricking the device.
