jb rom works but kk roms dont topic

I am running hashcode aosp jb rom and it works well, however when I try to load any kk rom it will work the first time and allow me to do a complete setup using gapps for my play store and google stuff. The next time I reboot or power off and restart my kindle it hangs at boot animation screen forever. ( OK I have left it for more than an hour before, not forever )
This happens with any kk (non otter x ) rom and any gapps file. It will even happen if I don't install any gapp.

I am using twrp 2.7. ? (I can't remember the last part) Has someone had this happen to them and if so did you find what to do to fix this problem. I would like to have the better memory management of kk rom for this old device. And it bugs me that I can't get it to work. Thanks for any help or advice.
